Demand Public Hearings in Conway!

The parents, staff, and students of the Conway school district demand a public hearing BEFORE the school board votes on the letters of intent to convert Conway middle and high schools to charter schools. The school board members are elected officials who owe that to their constituents. Arkansas state law actually REQUIRES that this be done before the applications are turned in to the state.  It does not specify if that should happen before a board vote, but it is the logical and fair process to hold the public meetings first.   The board must not vote on the letters at their March 11 consent agenda meeting. We ask that the board defer a vote until after timely public meetings have been held.
See page 17 of Arkansas Division of Elementary and Secondary Education Rules Guiding Charter Schools.

Why is this important?

This is taxation without representation. The superintendent and board are attempting to take a critical step for the district without consulting and informing stakeholders.

How it will be delivered

Emails, and/ or at the March school board meeting

This petition was delivered, and with turn out at the board meeting, resulted in the delay of the vote.
Now we need to keep going to meetings and find a Conway PSS lead.
