The parents, staff, and students of the Conway school district demand a public hearing BEFORE the school board votes on the letters of intent to convert Conway middle and high schools to charter schools. The school board members are elected officials who owe that to their constituents. Arkansas state law actually REQUIRES that this be done before the applications are turned in to the state. It does not specify if that should happen before a board vote, but it is the logical and fair process to hold the public meetings first. The board must not vote on the letters at their March 11 consent agenda meeting. We ask that the board defer a vote until after timely public meetings have been held.
