Public School Strong: Defend Against the Trump Administration’s Attacks

Public education is the cornerstone of our democracy, providing every child—regardless of race, identity or background—with the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. Yet today, our public schools are under threat like never before.
We parents, educators, students, school board members and public school supporters across the United States urge Congress to:
We parents, educators, students, school board members and public school supporters across the United States urge Congress to:
- Oppose any executive or legislative effort to dismantle the Department of Education.
- Reject the implementation of a federal school voucher program.
- Advocate for strong, fully funded public schools that serve all students.
The Trump Administration is drafting an executive order aimed at eliminating the Department of Education, a move that would strip critical federal support for public schools and students across the nation. At the same time, they are pushing for a federal school voucher program (Educational Choice for Children Act, or ECCA) that would divert public funding to private schools, many of which lack accountability and do not provide access to all students.
These dangerous proposals undermine the promise of quality education for every young person, but especially for Black and brown students, immigrants, LGBTQ+, and students with disabilities. Congress must act now to protect public education and reject these attacks.
A resolution introduced by Representative Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) and signed by dozens of members of Congress condemns any attempt to defund public education. But we need more!
Our students and our public schools are worth fighting for. Please commit to defending public education and protecting our nation's students. Together, we can make our public schools strong and ensure that every child has access to a high-quality education for years to come.
Why is this important?
Public education is under attack. From attempts to defund public schools through voucher scams, to efforts aimed at censoring educators and whitewashing history, the Trump Administration and its allies are threatening the future of education as we know it. This past week, the media began reporting that the administration has even begun efforts to dismantle the Department of Education.
We can’t stay silent. That’s why we’re launching a national petition to amplify voices calling for strong, fully funded, and equitable public schools.
Sign this petition and send a letter to your Congressional representatives urging them to take immediate action to protect our public schools.
