Miamisburg VOICE: Volunteers Organizing for Informed Community and Education is a local, nonpartisan group of residents committed to strengthening our community through informed civic engagement and strong, inclusive public education. Originally founded as a local chapter of a national pro-democracy initiative, we have evolved into an independent, locally focused organization dedicated to the students, families, and educators of the Miamisburg City School District and the broader Miamisburg community. Our name reflects our belief that meaningful change begins close to home — and that informed voices shape stronger communities. Our Mission... We work to ensure that public education in our community remains honest, inclusive, well-resourced, and grounded in evidence-based practices that prepare students for active participation in civic life. We empower residents to stay informed, engage respectfully, and advocate constructively for the policies and leadership that shape our schools and local institutions. What We Believe... Public Education Strengthens Democracy: At its best, public education prepares students not only for careers, but for citizenship. Schools should be places where students of all backgrounds learn together, think critically, engage with diverse perspectives, and develop the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute to a thriving democracy and connected community. Educators Deserve Trust, Professional Respect, and Evidence-Based Support: Teachers and school professionals are trained experts. Educational decisions — including curriculum implementation, instructional methods, and classroom materials — should be guided by professional standards, research, and evidence-based best practices. We support educators’ ability to teach accurate, age-appropriate information and to exercise their professional judgment in ways that meet the academic and developmental needs of their students. Access to Information Matters: Students benefit from access to diverse ideas, literature, and perspectives. Exposure to new ideas strengthens empathy, curiosity, and critical thinking. We oppose efforts to censor educational content or restrict access to information in ways that undermine intellectual growth. Local Voices Should Guide Local Decisions: Families, educators, and community members should play a central role in shaping school and community policies. We support transparent governance and local decision-making free from political interference or outside agendas that weaken community trust. Inclusion Is Foundational: We affirm the dignity and humanity of people of all races, ethnicities, religions, cultures, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities, and backgrounds. Every student deserves to learn in an environment that is welcoming, safe, and respectful. Public Institutions Must Remain Neutral, Accountable, and Grounded in Constitutional Principles: Public schools and local institutions serve diverse communities and must remain focused on education and civic responsibility rather than advancing partisan or sectarian agendas. Policies and instructional frameworks should be rooted in constitutional principles, established law, and evidence-based standards that ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability. Student Safety Is Essential: A safe learning environment — physically and emotionally — is fundamental to student success. Decisions related to student safety should be thoughtful, data-informed, and centered on the wellbeing of children and educators. Our Approach.... We are nonpartisan and community-based. Our members represent a range of political perspectives, united by a shared commitment to public education, democratic values, and respectful civic engagement. We align with statewide and national partners, including Honesty for Ohio Education, Public Schools Strong, and Defense of Democracy, as part of broader efforts to strengthen public schools, protect honest and inclusive education, and support democratic participation at the local level. We believe strong communities are built when people show up — to listen, to learn, to speak thoughtfully, and to work together for the common good. Use your voice. Advocate locally. Lead together.
