Abolish TIFs - Raise $20 Billion for America's Public Schools!

Tax Increment Financing Districts (TIFs) are special districts set up by mayors in the name of "economic development." These districts remove property tax dollars from serving the public and place those precipus public funds in secretive accounts cointrolled by the mayor. These funds are then doled out to clouted wealthy (and mostly white male) developers to subsidize private projects of little or no public benefit. These districts usually last for 23 years and in all that time every penny of new property tax value inside the TIF district is captured by the TIF. The Number One victim is always the local public school system - which SHOULD be getting between 50 cents to 60 cents (sometimes more) from every property tax dollar collected. There tens of thousands of TIFs districts across thousands of municipalities in 49 states.
