Teach Truth Rally at Chauncey Swan Park

Join Iowa City's Teach Truth Rally on June 14, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:30 pm. Hosted by Great Plains Action Society, Antelope Lending Library, Corridor Community Action Network, UE Local 896, and Iowa CCI.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a People's History Mini-Lesson, History Walking Tour, interactive pop-up display. There will be a book exchange and live music. Bring some books to exchange, questions, ideas, friends and family, or just bring yourself.

Named after one of the first settlers to the area, Iowa City's Teach Truth rally will be held in Chauncey Swan Park. A whitewashed history would honor Swan, one of the earliest postmasters of the Iowa territory. Upon his arrival, Swan saw, and displaced, the three bands of Sauk and Meskwaki people who called the land around what would become Iowa City home. It took two decades of resistance until the Meskwaki were able to secure a home amidst settlers, purchasing a large settlement in Tama county.
