Richmond City School Board Meeting
🦉 RVA Update: Richmond Virtual Academy continues to face the very real possibility of closure as budget discussions move forward. Our families, scholars, staff, and supporters must continue showing up, speaking out, and standing together to protect this important educational option for students across Richmond.
To provide some clarity on the fiscal reality: school funding is based on Average Daily Membership (enrollment), and those funds follow the student to the district. With over 150 full-time students and 200+ supplemental students, RVA generates significant revenue for the division. In reality, RVA is one of the most fiscally efficient models in the district, operating at less than half the per-pupil cost of a traditional brick-and-mortar building. The question remains: why would we zero out funding for a fully accredited, high-demand school that families are actively choosing? The math simply does not support the idea that RVA is a financial burden; the data shows it is a sustainable asset.
Please come out and support RVA at the Richmond School Board Meeting on May 12, 2026, and help us fill the room with Owl pride, advocacy, and unity. Our voices, presence, and continued advocacy matter now more than ever—HOOT HOOT! 💙✨ Wear your RVA school colors and stand with us in support of our scholars, families, staff, and community.
